Marian Anderson Music Center
Cheyney University
A renovation and reconfiguration of the Marian Anderson Music Center – home of the Department of Humanities and Communication Arts – reconsidered the role of the building within the department and within the campus as a whole. The project includes the complete retrofit of HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems for a comfortable, healthy, and energy-efficient building; the creation of fully-accessible spaces for students and audiences; and the complete acoustical and architectural re-design of the 500 seat auditorium. New lobby finishes include exhibit panels depicting the life of Marian Anderson, a new box office, and access to the reconfigured department office. New signage, as well as a programmable ticker-tape sign that announces department and university events, give the building a stronger and more inviting presence on campus.
