Leslie Pickney Hill Library

Cheyney University

A renovation of the main floor of the library included interior design, FF&E and lighting upgrades. CKd met with Cheyney administration and faculty to discuss the evolving use of the library and aspirations to transform the first floor from mostly stack space into a dynamic space where students could meet, study, and learn. The project was meant to be solely cosmetic, but CKd pursued them that lighting would place a key role in the perception of the space. In addition to replacing the lighting with efficient LED fixtures, the project included replacing the existing flooring, painting, custom casework and specifying new furniture and study tables. The scheme also included a café area where students could meet with faculty in an informal environment, as well as improvements in student access to technology. CKd’s solution helped to open and brighten up the space while also providing areas for various activities.
