Leslie Pinckney Hill Library Cheyney University, 2016
CKd was selected to provided interior design services for the main floor of the Leslie Pinkney Hill Library at Cheyney University. CKd met with Cheyney administration and faculty to discuss the evolving use of the library and aspirations to transform the first floor into a dynamic space where students could meet, study and learn. Though the project was meant to be only cosmetic, CKd argued that the lighting would play a key role in how the space would be perceived. In addition to replacing the lighting with efficient LED fixtures, the work included replacing the existing flooring, painting and specifying new furniture and study tables. CKd scheme also included a café area where students could meet with faculty in an informal environment. CKd’s solution helped to open and brighten up the space while still providing areas for different kinds of activity. The upgrades also included improving student access to technology resources an important aspect of a university library in the 21st century.
