Widener University, 2005
CKd’s 6th project at Widener University is a multi-phase, adaptive re-use of a former church on the main campus into a multi-use conference center. The program calls for lecture, performance, dining and academic space. The main design intent was to accommodate these disparate uses in a space that was comfortable, flexible and provided a public face for the University. Phase 1 was complete in September of 2005 and included the construction of an expandable platform and projection wall that replaced the altar and created storage and catering space behind. Phase 2 included additional lighting, window and acoustic treatments. These elements were pre-assembled to allow installation over the winter break. Phase 3 will reclaim additional areas of the building for another hall, seminar and break out rooms, additional catering space and reception areas.
